Challenge
Create a movie poster that depicts your future self.


Objectives
  1. Students will discuss & define good composition and design when looking at movie posters. 
  2. Students will demonstrate planning strategies and use critique to refine their ideas and work. 
  3. Students will experiment and explore various photo manipulation techniques using Photoshop and Illustrator.
  4. Students will demonstrate and refine design elements to create an aesthetically pleasing composition to conveys their future selves in a movie poster design.

COMMUNICATE
Subject Matter – The student will explore the theme of perceptions of self by exploring future goals. Discuss how to convey their future goals using imagery and graphic composition. Develop original plans, multiple steps & solutions to examine perceptions of self in artwork. Research media processes.  Apply knowledge garnered from experimentation to inform choices in artmaking.  Use safe & appropriate practices when using the internet as media or informational resource. 
CREATE
Student will formulate & employ a variety of art techniques to create original artworks.  Use digital art and design tools, software and techniques to create or enhance artworks and interpret concepts.  Select and use appropriate software for specific purposes.  Manipulate and use the elements of design including line, shape, form, value, color, space, and texture to express ideas in their movie poster composition.  Demonstrate skill and control using Photoshop and Illustrator tools and techniques.  Use layering, filters and composite images to produce artworks. 
RESPOND
Analyze and critique the visual and expressive qualities in artworks.  Reflect on and evaluate work during the artmaking process to refine craftsmanship and concepts.  Analyze, describe & defend aesthetic qualities found in works of art.  
CONNECT
Analyze how time, place, culture & available resources influence an artist. Investigate & apply an understanding of how a sense of future self relates to the presentation in the making & viewing of artworks. 
Connect ideas about self with other disciplines.

Challenge
Create a ceramic sculpture that depicts a place where you can be yourself.


Objectives
  1. Students will discuss & define a sense of place where they are comfortable being themselves.
  2. Students will demonstrate planning strategies and use critique to refine their ideas and work. 
  3. Students will experiment and explore painting with underglazes and proper slab building techniques in creating their house forms.
  4. Students will understand factors that create their personal space a safe environment for them to be themselves.

Subject Matter – The student will define a sense of place within a personal context. Discuss the symbolization of home. Develop original plans, multiple steps & solutions to examine a sense of place.
Use safe & appropriate practices when using the internet as media or informational resource. 
CREATE
Student will formulate & employ a variety of art forms to create original artworks.  Student will analyze subject matter in representational, abstract & non-representational artworks to inform artmaking. Use spatial concepts such as overlapping, foreground, middle & background, liner perspective, scale, atmospheric perspective, aerial perspective, worm’s-eye & bird’s-eye view in artwork.  Experiment with a variety of painting processes such as washes, dry brush, wet on wet, wet on dry, soft and hard edges, glaze & color mixing.  Student will formulate & employ approaches to using ceramic media, techniques & processes to produce original artworks. Students will experiment and explore painting with underglazes and proper slab building techniques in creating their house forms.

Create a mixed media triptych that depicts a personal transformation.   
 
Objectives
1. Students will discuss & define composition/unity when looking at artworks and their own work. 
2. Students will demonstrate planning strategies and use critique to refine their ideas and work. 
3. Students will experiment and explore various mixed media processes including: digital manipulation, printmaking, weaving, stitching, painting and drawing techniques.  
4. Students will demonstrate and refine design elements to create a unified triptych that depicts a personal transformation.
